Happy International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2022! IDPD was first proclaimed by theUnited Nations in 1992 with the goal of increasing awareness of disability issues and encouraging action to support the wellbeing, dignity and rights of people with disabilities around the world.
IDPD is also a time to celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities and to consider the theme of the year. The theme for IDPD 2022 is “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world“. The PEACH Research Unit out of Dalhousie University is partnering with the Town of Bridgewatr for a community consultation about accessibility and age friendliness in Bridgewater on September 24th at the LCLC. Here is what you need to know about the event and how to register as a participant.

We are seeking 10 individuals with experience of aging and/or disability who live in, work in, or regularly visit Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, to participate in a consultation session to co-develop measures to assess communities for accessibility and age-friendliness.
In partnership with the Town of Bridgewater, the PEACH Research Unit of Dalhousie University is performing a pilot project entitled, "RAAFIA: Rural Accessible and Age-Friendly Infrastructure Assessment". The RAAFIA tool aims to assess and monitor the accessibility and age-friendliness of community built environments to help inform future improvements.
